What makes us Worthy?
Ephesians 2:4-7 4 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), 6 and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.
In verse 4 we see it’s because of His great love with which He loved us. God loves us. In verse 5 even when we were dead in our sins, he made us alive together with Christ. Verse 6, he raised us up together and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus. Notice the tense, it's past tense. This isn’t something we are getting in the sweet by and by. It’s now, today. This is why we are worthy. Because of Christ. Not because of us being really good and faithful Christians.
Ephesians 2:8-9 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.
God did it through Grace so that we wouldn’t have anything to brag about. “I work so hard to be a good Christain. I do all the right things”.
We are worthy not by what we do, but by what Christ has done in us. Our union with him makes us worthy.
2 Peter 1:3-4 3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, 4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature
We see in 2 Peter verse 3 we have been given all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue. That makes you worthy.
In verse 4 we have been made partakers of the divine nature. That makes you worthy. Do you see the thread that sews these verses together? It’s the finished work of Christ that makes us Loved, accepted, and worthy. Not what we can do.
